Take Control of Your Health by Caring for Your Smile

Periodontal disease is linked to a variety of systemic health issues. Understanding the impact of infections is essential to understanding the value of timely treatment. While being treated for gum disease, Dr. Janice Kaeley will help you understand the connection between oral health and overall well-being.

Untreated gum disease can lead to a wide range of health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Protecting your gums will:

  • Keep Your Heart Healthy - Taking good care of your gums helps protect your heart. When your gums are healthy, there's less inflammation in your blood vessels, supporting better heart health and circulation.
  • Stabilize Your Blood Sugar - Good oral health makes managing blood sugar easier. When your gums are healthy, your body can use insulin more effectively, helping keep your blood sugar levels steady and stable.
  • Improve Your Breathing - Clean, healthy gums mean less harmful bacteria in your mouth. This helps protect your lungs, making it easier to breathe freely and stay healthy.
  • Boost the Health of Your Pregnancy - For expecting mothers, maintaining healthy gums supports your baby's development. Good oral health during pregnancy helps create the best environment for your baby to grow healthy.

I had consulted and done treatment last year for an entire year with another dentist and they were unable to repair my gums. I have only heartfelt thanks for Dr. Kaeley for helping me repair my gums. Dr. Kaeley will check my pockets next year and I could require another round of LANAP depending on how deep the pockets are. Dr, Kaeley is very knowledgeable & experienced. I don't think there is another gum specialist here in the Bay area like her.

ABSOLUTELY the best

I am beyond happy to have found this place. They're so caring, gentle and all the staffs are so friendly. I used to be so deathly afraid to get a basic cleaning for my teeth because no matter how much I tell them to be gentle at other places (due to sensitive teeth), they don't seem to listen...

I used to be so deathly afraid to get a basic cleaning for my teeth because no matter how much I tell them to be gentle at other places (due to sensitive teeth), they don't seem to listen but when I started going here for my gum treatments, I always look forward to going now. Please go here if you need periodontics treatment because they are ABSOLUTELY the best.

Laser Treatment Went Great

Dr. Kaeley is awsome. I just had laser treatment (lanap) today and it went great. It was quick, painless. Dr. Kaeley was very patient with me and even joking during surgery. That made me to calm down little bit :). She explained everything what she was doing and she even called me in evening to...

Common Questions About Periodontal Disease & Whole Body Health

How does periodontal disease affect my overall health

Periodontal disease is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and bone supporting your teeth. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and has been linked to other health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory problems. The inflammation caused by periodontal disease can release bacteria into the bloodstream, affecting various organs and systems in the body. Maintaining good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups can help prevent periodontal disease and its impact on your overall health.

Can periodontal disease contribute to systemic health issues?

Yes, periodontal disease can significantly contribute to systemic health issues. Research has shown that the bacteria from gum infections can enter the bloodstream, leading to inflammation and potentially exacerbating conditions like cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Additionally, if you have existing health issues, gum disease can worsen symptoms. This highlights the importance of treating gum disease not just for oral health but also for overall well-being.

What are the signs that I might have periodontal disease?

Common signs of periodontal disease include swollen or bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, gum recession, and loose teeth. You may also notice changes in the way your teeth fit together when you bite. Early detection is crucial, as the symptoms can worsen over time and lead to more serious health complications. If you notice any of these signs, it's important to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kaeley for a thorough exam and treatment.
